I currently weigh 300lbs. That is not my highest weight: on February 25, 2011 I weighed 315.8lbs. I have a little clue as to how it all happened, but I'm still baffled that it happened at all.
I have made a decision to undergo a Roux en Y gastric bypass surgery. I have met with the surgeon, Dr. Gregg Jossart and his cracker-jack team of professionals: Tara Griffiths, the counselor and Eric Hernandez, the nutritionist. Every step of the pre-surgical procedure has been easy and comforting. I know I have made the correct choice for my health care providers. I look forward to the operation and hopefully will be having it done in early October. I have one more meeting with Eric next Friday and we should be wrapping it up and sending his report off to the insurance company for approval and then to Dr. Jossart's office for the date and time of the surgery.
I have additional diagnoses of Type II diabetes which I take oral medication for (3 different medications: Metformin, Actos and Januvia) and Obstructive Sleep Apna and I use a CPAP monitor to sleep soundly at night. I have had that device for about 13 years. It will be strange and wonderful not to have to use it anymore.
Here is a picture of myself at my highest weight:
The picture was taken under the Las Vegas sign last February. This is how I got around Las Vegas on that trip, because of my weight:
Granted, it was a great time riding on those scooters. My sister and I were demons on them, but it would be better, I think, to get around on my own two feet, legs and hips.
This will be my journey now to a new, different and welcome phase for my life. It's going to be quite an adjustment, but I'm willing to take the risk and do what I need to do in order to live more fully with my dear husband and my family.
There's still so much more fun to be had and I don't want to be left behind and I don't want to be pushed around in a wheelchair or racing around on a scooter.
I have other plans I'll talk about later.
Hang on, it's going to be an adventure in LIVING!
